Artifacts can be anything that shows your learning and that you are able to create or store in Google Drive!
You should think about anything, from photos to videos to Google Docs and Slides, that helps to show your growth in one or more Skills. The tool works best with documents that are built into Google Drive such as Docs, Sheets, Drawings, and Slides; but you can upload any file of any kind, such as pictures of projects or videos of performances.
At the top of the Artifacts page are categories, reflecting the Skills defined by your school district. The numbers show how many artifacts have been added to each category. It's not important to get large numbers, but rather to make sure each artifact is work you are proud of, and that shows the skills.
Clicking into each category allows you to view the Artifacts and reflections that you have submitted in that category. You can see previous year artifacts by clicking the Academic Year dropdown. Clicking the i icon shows a definition of what Artifacts fit the competency area. The refresh icon allows you to force a Google Drive sync to update any artifacts you have added.
For artifacts that have already been added, you can click the history icon to see the artifact history and activity, and the 3 dots will allow you to quickly rename the artifact, edit the tags, remove from the current academic year, and refresh the document.
To add Artifacts, click Add. Then you can either select an existing file in your Drive or upload a new file. You also have the option to select more than one Skill. You will then be prompted to verify that the Artifact really demonstrates the selected Skill(s).
After you have added the Artifact, you will have the option to:
Describe the learning experiences that led to the Artifact.
Eg, “In eighth grade English class we were assigned to write a personal essay about a time we overcame a challenge as a group”.
Explain how that experience helped develop the competency.
Eg, “In this essay I discuss how I worked with other kids in my youth organization to design and put on a clothing drive for the homeless”.
Team projects can be great examples of Skills, but typically are done using a shared document. Shared documents are still able to be added as Skills even if you are not the owner of the original document. The tool will recognize that the document is not yours, and prompt you to create a copy of the document to be saved in your Google Drive, allowing you to proceed with adding it as an Artifact.
On the home screen, select Showcases. Then click the Create button to begin.
Give your Showcase a title, and then a description in the box on the left. Remember to click the save button on the description. In the box on the right, you can add a Google Slides presentation that is relevant to your Showcase.
Scroll down to add Artifacts to your Showcase. You can add documents here from your Artifacts folders, Google Drive or upload them from your computer. Once you select a document, you can add or edit your descriptions and skills alignment sections. The ? button will provide you the skills description for reference, if needed. If you want to remove an Artifact from the Showcase, click the 3 dots and click Remove from this skill.
You can request feedback or help from your teacher on your Showcase from within the Showcase View.
In the middle of the page, underneath where the Google Presentation space is, click Request Feedback.
Select your teacher from the list or type in their name to search for them. Then type your question in the box provided and click submit.
Your request will show up under the Unresolved Feedback Requests section. Here you will be able to see real-time responses from your teacher and respond back. Once you are done with your conversation, click the Resolve button and the conversation will get moved to the Resolved Feedback Requests section for you to look back on as needed.
